2003 B.C. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Dave Creemer

(Dave Creemer Memorial)

This year's Junior Championship is being held in memory of Dave Creemer (1902-1953), on the fiftieth anniversary of his passing. Creemer was a strong player (1934 Manitoba champion, 1937 Winnipeg champion, 1946 Vancouver Diamond Jubilee Open winner, 1946-48 Vancouver champion), but his lasting legacy was as a promoter: the weekly chess column he wrote in the Vancouver Province did much to popularize chess in B.C. He was also chairman of the organizing committee for the Canadian Championship in 1951, the first to be held in Vancouver.
