On Saturday, February 22, 2003, the British Columbia Chess Federation will hold the following two separate events:
- The Elementary School Finals (grades 1-7), open to 6 elementary schools qualifying from the preliminary tournament held February 1, 2003 at West Point Grey Academy;
- The Secondary School Championship, open to all secondary schools in British Columbia. Players from grades 8 to 12 may play in this event.


Space is limited, and therefore entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each school is limited to two teams in each event.

9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The deadline for registration is February 15, 2003.

Format

Round Robin for Elementary Finals; five-round Swiss for secondary teams.

Rounds

The first round will begin at 9:30 a.m. Additional rounds will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.

Time Control

The time control will be 45 minutes per player for the game. The top matches will use chess clocks throughout; other matches will start without a clock, but will have a clock placed on them after 1 hour of elapsed time, with each player having 15 minutes to complete the game.

Teams

Each team will consist of four players and up to two spares. Any four team members may play in a given match.

Entry fee

$25 per team. This fee includes spares. Elementary school teams qualifying from the preliminary tournament enter for free.

Prizes

The first three schools in each event will receive a permanent trophy, as well as custody of a perpetual trophy for one year. Winning team members will receive individual trophies. The top players for each board will receive prizes.

Equipment

Please bring chess clocks if possible. Sets, boards, and scoresheets will be provided.

Food

Food, including lunch, will be available on site.
